Cumbria Mentor Point was set up
in April 2002 as one of seven Mentor Point pilot schemes.
It was funded by the Active Community Unit for the
first two years.
The work is now funded by Learning
+ Skills Council, Cumbria and the European Social Fund
through CETAD, Learning Links and Neighbourhood Learning
in Deprived Communities.
Mentoring is growing in popularity
in the UK. Businesses use mentoring to support new
employees, whilst schools
and community projects use youth mentoring services
as a tool to help young people through a particular
time
in their life.
Cumbria Mentor Point also works alongside
Mentoring and Befriending North West in order to:
Recruit
new mentors and support existing volunteers.
Offer
free training for all mentors and optional accredited
training.
Raise
the standards, profile and awareness of mentoring
across Cumbria.
Promote
the National Approved Provider Standard and ensure the quality of
mentoring
programmes.
Provide
advice and help for organisations setting up youth
mentoring services.
Provide
an eMentoring facility.
